Counselling & Psychotherapy in Burton Upon Trent and online
I am a humanistic and Integrative counsellor and this means i can draw on techniques from different types of therapy to tailor an approach specifically for you, as a psychotherapist my role is to help you focus on long term issues and growth while helping you resolve and work through any current issues that bring you into therapy. I believe in providing this with a gentle empathetic approach grounded in non-judgemental bias where emotional support can be offered in a safe and confidential environment.
I work with adult clients and can provide a space where under 2's can attend with their accompanying adult.
I offer a 30 minute initial meeting for £15 which can include an informal cuppa and a chat before we start sessions, as I feel it's really important to meet the right counsellor for you. This also allows us to chat about your goals for counselling and what you'd like to gain from your sessions and answer any questions you might have.
My predominant experience is working with trauma, young people, sexual abuse, violence and generalised anxiety and stress.
My niche is to provide perinatal support to new and expectant mums/dads/other by offering a space that under 2's can attend in a safe home from home environment where basic needs are met for you both. Notice of any under 2's attending need to be prior agreed so adequate provisions can be placed and supported.
I am a individual member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and hold a BSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy honoured by the University of Staffordshire, i have over 20 years experience working within the health and social care sector and have a wide breadth of knowledge from supporting people with a range of varying physical and mental health conditions which have broadened my ability to tailor my therapeutic experience to my clients needs.
Feel free to say hello to my pets upon your visit: miniature dachsund Penny, and my cats Minnie and Boo!
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.
People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Abuse
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life
I am based in Staffordshire, working from within my home based in Burton upon Trent, and see clients from surrounding areas such as Stoke, Tamworth and Derbyshire. I will provide exact location details when we arrange our counselling sessions.
I can also offer online counselling by zoom, but would always encourage local clients to attend face to face sessions. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
Sessions last 60 minutes and cost £50 taking place weekly. I also provide a limited number of reduced fee spaces for those in receipt of any income based benefits; contact me to enquire about availability. I don't believe that finances should dictate your access to mental health support, and would rather you reach out and speak to me if you find yourself in financial difficulty and see what adjustments we can make.
I recommend us working together weekly for a minimum of 6 sessions before we review and explore working together longer.
Your initial session will need to be secured with payment following your initial enquiry and consultation - this secures your time spent with me. You may be charged for late notice of cancellation. And any subsequent sessions attended need to be paid within 48 hours which can be done by bank transfer.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07301969745 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
